The 3rd Quarter – Schumann Consult

The end of September drew Schumann Consult’s 3rd quarter of trading to a close and things continue to take off. We have started working with some terrific new clients, added some really fantastic projects to our portfolio, welcomed new members of staff to our team, attended the World Architecture Festival in Singapore, cemented our alliance with RLB by attending and presenting to their global conference in Dubai and enhanced our business infrastructure. All in all a busy 3 months.

Welcoming New Staff

As mentioned in this post, we welcomed Stephen Walton to the Schumann Consult (SCL) family in August as a Project Director and we are delighted to have one of the countries best specification consultants join our growing team. Stephen is already very busy delivering projects and managing clients.

The arrival of Stephen was further evidence of SCL’s growth and commitment to employing the best people which is set to continue over the coming months when more members of staff will be joining us.

Of course with growth comes additional pressure to maximise opportunities, manage our operations efficiently, add value and continue to deliver a first class service to our clients. We remain committed to keeping overheads low so as to provide excellent value which involves offering staff flexible working conditions through a policy of working from home and travelling only when required, which of course helps to reduce our carbon footprint. We maintain internal communication through regular face to face meetings and the use of IT, taking advantage of things such as Google Hangouts. Our aim is to maximise the time we spend with clients and use the facilities of our alliance partner RLB’s offices in the UK and overseas.

Due to the delay in this blog post, and now being in the 2nd month of the final quarter, we have since added another new member of staff to the team. More on this in a future blog piece. As we sit here now we have a team of 7, but even this is growing in the next few weeks and months.

P.I.M.S.

Our business infrastructure continues to evolve as more and more people join us. The demands on data and storage increase, and with many of our staff operating out of different offices, the need for good knowledge sharing and protocols is required. In September we came up with the acronym P.I.M.S., standing for:

Production | Information | Management | Storage

For each element of the above we have a system associated with it, and it is these systems which underpin our entire business and the way it operates. We will be writing some blog posts about how we use each of these in detail in the near future, but these four systems mean that we can operate in a modern and flexible way, wherever we are in the world.

New Projects and Clients

Over the past three months we have won new projects in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, London, Manchester and Wales. We have been proud of the fact that these projects have materialised either through repeat business with existing clients, approaches from architects and our RLB connection, with little or nodirect marketing by ourselves which demonstrates that our reputation, brand, service quality and value for money are knownin the market.

The RLB Alliance

As we discussed in this post, SCL became an alliance member of RLB in July 2013. Only a few months in we are of course still in the early days but all signs point to a great relationship and future. A number opportunities have already arisen from this relationship but we now focus on this key question:

‘How does the RLB and SCL alliance benefit me (the client)’

A great question and one we are answering for one of our clients at this very moment. Both SCL and RLB are appointed as Specification Consultants and Cost Consultants respectively on a new project and we are delivering integrated solutions which should come as a result of such an alliance. The aim here is to make 1 + 1 = 3, and we will be discussing this more over the coming months.
